Keystroke hacking of computer keyboard

Keystroke logging of computer keyboard is actually a method of capturing as well as recording user keystrokes. It is basically used legally to measure employee productivity on certain clerical tasks, or even by law enforcement agencies in order to find out about illegal activities. However, it is also used by hackers for law-breaking, and other illegal activities. The hackers use key-loggers as a means to get the passwords or encryption keys to bypass other security measures.

Keystroke logging can be done by both hardware and software means. Hardware key loggers are appended to the keyboard cable or installed inside standard keyboards while the software key-loggers work on the operating system of the target computer to gain unauthorized access to the hardware, and to hook into the keyboard with functions provided by the OS. Some hackers, however, use wireless key-logger sniffers in order to collect packets of data, which are being transferred from a wireless keyboard and its receiver. And then they crack the encryption key to secure wireless communications between the two devices.

The anti-spyware applications are used to detect many key-loggers and also to cleanse them. Responsible vendors of monitoring software also support detection by anti-spyware programs, while preventing abuse of the software. By keystroke hacking of computer keyboard, electromagnetic waves, which are released every time a key is pressed on the keyboard, can be detected by a nearby antenna and then can be interpreted by the computer software to work out exactly what was typed.
